For my fellow Panem citizens 'in the know', I'm sure you'd agree that the notable aspects of Capitol fashion are color, extremes, and of course, a "wow" factor. (These characteristics are extremely different from that of District 12, home of Katniss Everdeen, or any other districts for that matter.) The fashion in the Capitol is simply incomparable to what people of the districts wear. You see, the Capitol is where excess is encouraged, indulgences are a must, and looks are almost always deceiving.
If the color of your hair doesn't match the color of your outfit, something is amiss. Whiskers and other animal-like features aren't painted on, they're surgically implanted. Capitol Citizens absolutely MUST stand out - they wouldn't have it any other way. So what does this mean for our fashion of 2012? More color, of course! Not just a set few, I'm talking every shade, every combination will be mixed, matched, on hair, in makeup, even extravagant nail designs, exaggerated silhouettes, shoes that look more like art than something to take a stroll in, and absolutely anything and everything you can think of that push the rules and trends of couture fashion to the limit. This applies to men as well. Yes, the men of the Capitol are just as involved in their fashion as the women are.
Now when you're trying to achieve your Capitol look, keep this thought in mind: If it's shocking, you're headed the right direction. Wonder which stars would easily pass as Capitol Citizens? That's easy: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj. For more inspiration, I've included a slide show below. Next week, I'll share some of my favorite "Girl On Fire" looks.
Until then, may the odds be ever in your favor,
